Final Post

This concludes my blog report on my documenting my production for AS media.
WWW= What went well
WISW= What I struggled with

WWW: The creation of the product itself, was generally good. Had minor issues that were rectified with ease.
Researching and planning for production was easy as they were lots existing products that I learnt from.
WISW: uploading to blogger was difficult, as it embedding and uploading was a difficult strategy to master.

I hope you enjoyed my blog!

Magazines are distributed globally through supermarket stores, lower market stores and outlets. Magazines can also be distributed online, through the internet. The distribution of magazine is vital for a magazine as this will make it more accessible for my target audience. Frontline Magazine Distribution is a distribution company that sells magazines to over 55,000 retailers across the UK. Frontline are the UK’s leading magazine sales and Distribution Company. Frontline are located in Peterborough, UK.
Frontline are known for doing much charity work and fundraising in their community. The reason I feel that Frontline would distribute my magazine is because my magazine production is different from the magazines they publish; therefore by using mine they’re expanding their market. Also the reason that I think they will distribute my magazine is because they’re the UK’s leading magazine for sales and distribution therefore they would want to keep up that title with a new soon to be popular magazine. I decided to choose Frontline because frontline is the UK’s leading distributor, with them distributed many of the UK’s most popular magazines, which will be good for my magazine as this means that my magazine will be distributed very well. Already existing products they distribute include: Empire, Tv Choice, Match of the day and Heat. These are all big well known popular magazines therefore this is a good distributor for my magazine as they will have the experience of working with big magazine companies.

Production: Double page spread title change

I changed the title colour and structure on my double page spread. This was due to the previous title being very basic, unappealing and un-professional. I then changed it too a more vibrant design which will make it more appealing and attractive to my target audience. Using a more vibrant colour and style on font will make it stand out and give it that more professional look. These are all the factors that contributed to improving my title for my target audience.

EVALUATION SECTION

This concludes my production of my magazine design! Now moving on to my final post!

Production: Changes: Front Page

Production: Contents page title change

I decided to change the design of my contents page title and make it more vibrant and creative so that it is more appealing and eye-catching to the audience. I included a black border around the words to conform with the black text and the costume of the model, in the image. I kept the red as I feel that red is the main colour within all my pages therefore keeping this colour will create a feeling of familiarity for my audience.

Production: Changes: Contents Page

I moved the sub images from the bottom to the middle going downward, this is because I felt that it look more structured like a contents page this way and it also meant I could include an 3rd image and it can link to my sub headings more.

I decided to re-arrangement the font size and structure of my text on my contents page. I decided to do this to give the page that typical contents page look and structure, this was because I wanted to offer my audience a sense of familiarity .

I also re-arrange the position of my social media icons to the bottom as it didn’t look good in the middle.

PRODUCTION SECTION

This concludes the research and planning for my production, Now onto the construction of the design!

Planning: Magazine Name ideas

I drew up a brainstorm of many magazine names that can apply to my music magazine.
The choices were from:
RAP CITY
REWIND
JAMZ
PRESSPLAY
RAP WORLD
BASE.
I drew these name ideas up as they all have a reference to the rap genre and can easily be interpreted by my audience as the rap genre.

I have decide to use 'PRESSPLAY'. This is because it uses alliteration which my audience may find intriguing. Also the fact that pressplay is a literal action that is linked with music. Calling it 'PressPlay' is a play on words as you people literally press play to listen to music.

I think this would be the best magazine name to use that will attract my audience the most

Planning: Camera Shot/Angles

They're a variety types of different camera shots that are used in a all types of magazines. The most common shot used is a 'mid shot'. However they're many other selective shot types and angles that can be used as magazine images (through all pages). These include:
  • Mid shot
  • Two shot
  • Long Shot
  • Close up
  • Medium Close up
  • Birds eye view
  • high angle shot
  • Eye level shot
  • Low Angle
  • Bottom angle (worms eye view)

I've decided the shots and angle types I will use when taking my photos, for my magazines images, will be mid shots and long shots. I chose the mid shot type because by choosing this shot type I will be conforming to the typical shot types of magazines. Also this will enhance the view of the costume or props and make it more visible to my audience.

Planning: Flat Plan - Draw up

I’ve decided to organise my magazine pages like this because it’s clearly structure which will make it easy for the audience to view. This will make the target audience engaged because they can see the content clearly and won’t get confused by anything. This well organised layout will make magazine look professional and attract the target audience. Because the target audience I aimed at is young I have added convergence as my target audience is in to social networking. I have also put in an incentive because it will offer a sense of abundance to the target.

Planning: Title - Font Decision.

They're many fonts that could of been chosen to be my title for my three pages, the title on each page will be the biggest size text, therefore needs to be easily visible and readable to my audience.
A list of these fonts consist of:
Arial
Impact
Calibri
Nueva Std Cond
Garamond
Adobe
Myriad Pro
Verdana
Times new roman

I narrowed the list down to the fonts that I felt were most appropriate for my magazine:
Arial
Impact
Calibri
Nueva Std Cond.

I decided to use 'Impact' style font as it is really bold and readible to my audience. It is also very elegant and appealing. This will be good as it will be eye-catching to my audience. It also can contrast with many different types of a designs and animation. Impact font is a capatible font and will go great with the magazine pages design I have planned.

Planning: Props and Costumes

Due to my genre (rap) there is many different props and costumes that I can use, relating back to the genre. However due to the current century and my target audience my options for props and costume will be limited.
The props and costume predominately used in this generation of rap are:

· Liquor bottles
· Tattoos
· Bling (Jewellery, shiny accessories and material)
· Nice clothes (expensive suits, etc)
· Sophisticated gangster style
· Ghetto gangster style
· Low riding
· Topless
· Money
· Girls
· Sunglasses
· Drugs
· Religious symbols

For my magazine I plan to use go with the sophisticated gangster style, having my models dress up smartly, as if they’re too wealthy to be dressing in the ‘ghetto look’. I have decided to this because the rap artist of today portray themselves this way and by conforming to the typical ‘look’and styles of today’s Rap artist will appeal to my target audience. I will also use some props, such a liquor bottle and a bling. The reason I have chosen this image for my models is because this is what my target audience will be appealed too as this is what they’d expect from a rap image. Using these props and costumes will offer a sense of familiarity to the audience.

Planning: Treatment

My product will promote the rap genre of music. My product will use two different fonts depending on what it is promoting (front cover and context); It will have the font ‘impact’ on the front page and San serif for the context page.  I plan to have a picture (of me) on my front cover, promoting a new rap album releasing soon. Magazines going to show the latest rap news out in the music industry, gossip about rappers/relationships and any new up coming rappers that are upcoming. It will also show interviews from famous rappers. In my magazine I will use Calibri fonts.

Planning: Photoshoot Plans & Contact Sheets

For my magazine pictures, I plan to take a picture with a Nikon D 5200 in a professional studio with my actors & atresses. This camera is a professional camera system, this camera has a high mega-pixle count that will capture all the features of my actors & actresses that are needed. The fact that the photoshoot is taking place in a professional studio, with a professional white back drop, is that so I can edit the pictures easily and that there's no clash with colours, between the back drop and the actors/actresses. Here are the pictures, I have taken and are going to select from to use in my magazine Here are the images I took, I asked my actors and actresses to pose in the 'rich celebrity' image, however also show a hint of rap 'gangster' as that is a typical view of rap groups.
